Etymology
The adjective **cible** comes from Old French *cible* (target), itself derived from Latin **cibulum**, a “small piece of food, especially meat.” In medieval hunting a slice of meat was set as a target, and the term shifted from this specific object to mean any aim or goal. By the 17th century it entered modern French with the sense “targeted” or “aimed.”
