Etymology
The French possessive adjective **sa** (used to mean “her” or “its” for a feminine noun) comes from Latin **suus** “his, her, its own”. In Old French it appeared as **s'a** or **sa**, preserving the initial *s* from *suus* and taking the feminine ending *‑a*. The apostrophe was later dropped, leaving the modern form **sa**.
